I have used the kettle everyday for a month. I have cleaned it with soap and water repeatedly. The chemical smell and taste are still present.
To think I bought this because I thought glass would be "chemically" safer than the plastic kettle I was using. Big mistake. I'm going back to my old kettle.

I am now on my second one of these, because I do like the play value in watching the water boil, which it does quickly. The problem is that the top of the lid is actually chrome plated plastic, and it first gets bubbles under the chrome plating, then the curved top comes off altogether, leaving just an ugly black plastic lid. This happened with the first one too. Then, because the seal is now imperfect, the auto-shut-off is iffy, so if it gets too hot it may not turn on, even after you have added cold water. You have to wait for it to cool.
So I'm looking for a replacement for when it finally goes. I'd love for Capresso to upgrade this model to or for someone else to come out with a glass-electric alternative.

I paid approximately $90.00 for this kettle in May 2010.
I bought it mainly because it looked nice and had a few options for water temprature.
Last week I had boiled water for tea and as soon as the motor turned off, I picked up the kettle to pour water in my teapot! The handle came off and the pot itself landed on my counter and broke!!! The kettle broke when it was filled with HOT BOILING water! I was wearing jeans and managed to splash some on my clothes, but because of wearing jeans I only had a red patch on my thigh!
I then spent about 20 minutes picking up glass shards and mopping my floor!
This product is dangerous! NOT recommended!!!!!
