Editorial Reviews:
Product Description In 1840 the US government commissioned a ship to be outfitted with a light to aid navigation through the seas around the island of Nantucket. Crews who manned this ship worked eight months shifts and to pass the time they began making baskets as the native Americans had taught them. And so the Nantucket lightship basket was born. This beautiful sculpted design in pure white china was inspired by these very baskets which are now avidly collected.
Amazon.com Review Wedgwood has crafted luxurious pottery fit for royalty since 1759 in Staffordshire, England. The epitome of elegance and grace, each china pattern is recognized around the world for its enduring beauty. Capturing this sophistication, Nantucket Basket delicately combines a classically pristine white on white pattern with historical significance. Based upon handwoven baskets crafted on the island of Nantucket in the 19th Century, this lovely design incorporates the sculptural beauty of these hand crafted containers that are still collected today. Standing 3-1/2 inches tall, this delicate creamer coordinates with the matching tea and coffee accessories. Covering the outer bowl and handle, the subtle design harmonizes with a wide variety of table dressings and occasions. Crafted from Wedgwood's fine bone china, the creamer is durable enough to be placed in the dishwasher. --Lea Werbel
