Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Designed for making ice creams, sorbets and frozen drinks, the Lussino Ice Cream Maker produces up to 1.5-quarts of ice cream in less than 30 minutes. This commercial-quality machine has a self-contained freezer-compressor, which enables a variety of homemade frozen desserts to be made with a quick turn-around time between batches. A timer, working in conjunction with the Churn and Chill switch, makes operation simple. Made of heavy gauge stainless steel, this machine includes a removable stainless steel blade. Stainless steel bowl is non-removable, yet easy to clean. Clear lid allows viewing of contents as it processes. Made in Italy. Please Note: Gift Wrapping is not available for this item.

Amazon.com Review
Fully automatic and precisely controlled by a timer, this machine takes the trouble and guesswork out of making ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato, and frozen drinks at home. Ingredients go into the bowl, the timer is set, two buttons are pressed and about 30 minutes later 1-1/2 quarts of a frozen confection are ready for consumption. Because the machine doesn't require its bowl to be frozen for hours in a refrigerator's freezer (like less expensive machines that only churn), it can immediately begin making another batch. If a batch becomes too hard the machine shuts off automatically. Not only does it work professionally it looks the part, as the housing, bowl, and paddle are made of stainless steel for sanitation and easy cleaning. The 100-watt machine measures 12 inches wide, 11 inches high, and 18 inches deep, and it weighs 38 pounds. Made it Italy, it carries a one-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet with many recipes is included. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Excellent dessertmaker! Worth the money.   November 17, 2008

1. Using it for almost 1 year - worth the money.
2. Ice-cream is perfect - no ice chips, very smooth. We do not buy ice-cream any more.
3. Frozen yoghurts are simply beautiful. We do not buy frozen yoghurts any more either. Homemade are so much better!
4. Easy to use and take care of.
5. Quiet.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Worth It, quiet and easy to clean. Wonderful!   November 15, 2008

I bought one from amazon after reading all of the rave reviews and I'm glad I did. Although my wife gave me grief when she found out what I paid for it she said I was completely vindicated when she tasted the first batch of sorbet. The machine is worth every penny of its high price. The unit is quiet enough that several friends and I sat around the table with the unit running and had a nice conversation and almost forgot that it was on. Cleaning is simple despite the fact that there is no bowl to remove so don't let that stop you.

There is just a couple of issues. The first is that it is fairly large and takes up a considerable amount of counter space so know where you're going to keep and use it when you buy it. Since it weighs in a 38 pounds you're not going to be keeping it in the closet and digging it out and setting it up to use it. Find a permanent place for it to live before you buy it.

The second is that it is way too easy to make ice cream when you own this unit. You're going to want to try out various recipes and if you don't have guests or family to feed you'll end up gaining serious weight eating it yourself.

2 out of 5 stars "Easy Cleaning"   November 6, 2008

I have had this machine for 6 months now and thought I would share my views. I bought this product on the back of other peoples reviews on Amazon. I should have done more research but I will get to that. I love ice cream; I am the type of person that will eat ice cream for a meal. Initially I thought this machine was fantastic (I had nothing to compare it to). For the first three months I made ice cream daily, experimenting and testing different recipes. Now days I hardly make since the cleaning puts me off. The cleaning of this machine is terrible. I am so surprised no one mentioned it in previous reviews. "Easy cleaning" is the phrase the manufacturer uses. The bowl is not removable so you have to clean over the machine. Depending on the location of your machine, you may need to clean the floor as well on your trips back and forth to the sink to rinse out the cloth.

Would I buy this machine again; NO. What I would buy is the Nemox Pro 1700. Similar price, also made in Italy, IT HAS A REMOVABLE BOWL (or you can use the internal one) and you can buy additional bowls. Other features I love include no timer so you don't have to hang around worried you are going to burn out the motor. The machine stops when ice cream is the right consistency. The cherry on top is the "storage system" the readymade ice cream remains in the machines which keeps it at the right consistency until you are ready to eat. I really should have done more research before I bought the Musso.

I would have given this unit a 5 star rating in the first three months. The novelty has worn off and in reality the cleaning sucks which takes away the fun of making ice cream daily.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing   October 7, 2008

I consider myself an experienced ice cream maker. Having a cow at home and three-five gallons of milk daily to "use up", I've made hundreds of quarts of ice cream over the last 20 years. Hence, my last ice cream maker was the White Mountain Creamery machine which required rock salt and ice. It was the fourth ice cream maker I burnt out. I figured, given the reviews-I'd shoot for this one. The concept was awesome-no more ice and rock salt! However, there is one HUGE fault with the machine. The mechanism stirs the mix rather than folding it. Thereby, very little air if any, really, enters the mix and the result is very dense ice cream that is not as palatable-it's simply dry. The flavor is good, but it just doesn't have good mouth-feel. I'm stuck with this machine right now. So, I'm testing recipes and techniques including whipping up the mix a bit before putting it in the freezer itself. Hopefully, I can find a way to not only have an ice cream that has great flavor but that sits on my tongue nicely too. Thus far, the White Mountain Creamery machine created the best ice cream. Only go with a single recipe-I burned it out when I made a double batch of chocolate.

We recieved the product quickly & was in tip top shape. Tried it out soon after & was very surprised how quiet it was. It got noisy at the end. That was good because it tipped us off it was near the end of it's cycle. So far so good.
