Not so good November 8, 2008 Mr. Picky (NYC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really like most of the shelf-stable pouch meals from India, regardless of the brand or variety. The Thai entrees from TastyBite in general and this yellow curry in particular are not so good, though. I was really looking forward to enjoying it, but was very disappointed. There are two main problems: 1. The product is mostly soupy sauce with very few vegetables 2. The sauce is way too sweet and underspiced I usually bulk these meals out with extra vegetables and occasionally tuna fish and of course serve them with rice and sometimes naan. Still, they are barely enough for one person, even though it is supposed to be two servings. That also means that even if you believe the nutritional information, you have to double the sodium, calories, etc. But with the yellow curry vegetables, you're basically just getting a pouch of overly sweet, underspiced sauce with a few tiny chunks of mushy, overcooked potato, green beans, and miniature corn. I've seen bigger chunks of vegetables in gravy at Thanksgiving. Even after adding spices and vegetables and serving it over rice, it's way too sweet and soupy to enjoy. (Yes, I know Thai curries are usually soupier than Indian curries.) I won't be buying this particular meal again. Bottom line: even for someone who likes these packaged meals, a case of twelve is too much of a commitment on this particular variety.
