Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Awful   December 28, 2008

I got a can of these from the grocery store after seeing the good reviews here, but whoa-- they are completely burnt tasting! The spices were terrible and everything was strangely dry. I could barely stand the smell as this was cooking and I ended up tossing it; adding a bit of salt and other seasonings did nothing. Very disappointing!

5 out of 5 stars Pretty good rice and beans.   March 13, 2008

In general, I'm a big fan of rice and beans -- though these seemed to be a bit mild in terms of spice. A shot of hot sauce Huy Fong Sriracha sauce - 17 oz x 2 bottles and a few twists of sea salt made the flavor pop. I've also enjoyed these with a sprinkling of grated cheese. A convenient, fast meal that doubles as comfort food. Good stuff.

This is a fantastic meal in a can. Not too spicy but not bland at all, it can be eaten alone, just heat it up. You can also add some tomato sauce and vegetarian protein crumbles (I use Yves brand) and it's a terrific chili that tastes great in whole wheat pita bread or a tortilla wrap. Low salt, low fat, it's a perfect fast food dinner when you're tired. I ordered a case because the local supply is inconsistent. Too bad that there are many shelves of sodium- and fat-based products, and so little room for simple, organic good food. I will enjoy this for many meals this summer.
