5 out of 5 stars Another important step!!   August 26, 2008
Tom G. Gambill
After a year of reworking my diet from the "Western Diet" to the much healthier "Eastern Diet"... (Thanks to the books: Fast Food Nation, Food Revolution, In Defense of Food, Omnivores Dilema, and The China Study... all great 5star reads!!) I found a bag of this in the back of my closet purchased bulk 5 years ago. I cooked it, loved it, and finally found it at my local supermarket. It is the best rice! Excellent taste and texture. I lost 50 2 years ago through diet changes and exercise and whole grain high fiber products like this have helped me to keep the weight off!! Get the rice, buy the books!!!

It's relly good. There's a great recipe for Forbidden Rice Salad on Whole Foods website. Also Google yielded a good one as well.

5 out of 5 stars it's the ONLY rice I'll eat   April 18, 2007

I love this rice! I tried it because it was different, and I was trying to teach myself to like whole grain rice. Actually I didn't even care for white rice. So I tried this and it was love at first taste. I keep it on hand and eat it regularly. It's good in various dishes, but it's also delicious by itself without even a smidgen of seasoning. It has a deep flavor that isn't too earthy, but has a touch of smokiness and nutty flavor. It cooks perfectly and doesn't clump, so the grains fall nicely on to the plate.

This rice has a light rich flavor that is a nice change from other rices I eat. VERY GOOD! The shipper mailed this to me very quickly also.

5 out of 5 stars My kids prefer it to brown rice   August 17, 2006

We bought this from Amazon- and its been a clear hit with all the adults who've tried it. My kids were a bit tentative at first, due to the unusual dark color, but have since warmed up to it. We can even serve it to them as plain steamed rice: we could only get them to eat brown rice if it was cooked in broth (and even then, they weren't that happy about it).

Pros:
- cooks faster than brown
- texture close to white rice: maybe a little more bite
- mild, nutty flavor; again pretty close to white rice. can't imagine that any rice lover wouldn't like it
- supposedly, much healthier vs. white rice
- purplish/black color makes for interesting presentation

Cons:
- can't think of any...
