5 out of 5 stars The best   July 10, 2008
D. Chandler (Kerikeri, New Zealand)
This is far and away the best packaged oatmeal available. I would just about kill to get it here in New Zealand and I'm chatting up a local importer to see if that can happen.

5 out of 5 stars awesome   June 2, 2008

I love the texture of this more than the Quaker brand. I cooked it and then in the last few minutes added cinnamon, chopped pecans, raisins and chopped dried apricots, and honey. It was so yummy. I made more than I could eat (this stuff is filling!) and so I brought it into work the next day... same texture and flavor. It kept very well over night.

4 out of 5 stars Tasty treat   May 15, 2008
PC (Los Angeles, CA United States)
Very tasty with good texture. It is clearly different from the rolled oats. I like the nutty flavor.
It does take 30 to 40 minutes of constant attention if you start from scratch. I did not try the "soak over night, boil for 10 minutes" methods.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect breakfast food   May 14, 2008
Janet L. Helfand (Florida)
I just love the consistency of McCann's steel cut oatmeal. I have started cooking it for several days worth and keep the remainder in a plastic container in the refrigerator. I then add frozen strawberries to it and nuke it hot. Add some yogurt and start off with a great breakfast with all the nutrition and fiber I need.
I like buying it in the boxes so the oatmeal stays fresh.

5 out of 5 stars If you've not tried steel cut, do it NOW!   April 17, 2008
Robert Siletzky (Elon, North Carolina)
I discovered steel cut oats a few years ago and never looked back. This product cooked is full of flavor with a nice nutty texture rather than the "mush" that you get with rolled oats. It takes about 35-40 minutes to cook on the stove, but only requires ocassional stirring. I'm not sure I can tell the difference between Irish or American steel-cut oats, but since Amazon sells McCann's (Irish) that's what we get.

For you Canadians: we mix these oats with Red River cereal at about a 4 to 1 ratio. We add the Red River about half way through the cooking process. It adds a lot of flavour with all those other grains in Red River, but to keep the oats from just being Red River helper, you have to go easy on the Red River.
