Product Description
This buttery emollient is a powerful moisturizer. Retrieved directly from the fruit of the African shea tree, L'Occitane Shea Butter's natural benefits will protect, nourish, and moisturize dry and sensitive skin. To use, warm a nickel-sized amount in the palm of your hand and smooth onto rough feet, hands, elbows, knees, and any dry patch. May also be applied to hair as a deep conditioning treatment.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE this product!   February 28, 2008

This is great for super dry skin. I use a little bit on my hands when they crack in the winter and it really heals the skin. I think it is completely worth the price since the giant tin should last for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Thick and rich, absorbs well   December 17, 2007
W. Koenigsmann (Northern Hemisphere)
This is good for layering over a hand lotion on cold winter months or whenever one needs extra-therapeutic care while sleeping. The butter is rich and smooth, and, once warmed up in the hands absorbs well. The perfume is light and not annoying, so even a person allergic to fragrance may tolerate it. I do agree with another reviewer though that this is expensive for the amount; in fact, many of L'Occitane's products tend to be expensive and that is a deterrent.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!   November 22, 2007
Stephanie Rose Bird (Chicago, IL)
I often write about shea butter. I love it and use it for many different purposes as an herbalist and soapmaker. I wrote a long article on shea for www.naturallycurly.com. So, what makes this one the best? It is smooth, not grainy like the raw type. It is colorless and practically odorless so it doesn't conflict with your perfume, nor does it stain your clothing. L'occitane buys their shea directly from small women-owned shea butter cooperatives through fair-trade agreements so buying the shea is helpful to rural communities making its purchase good for the soul as well. Then there are its bountiful uses: hair conditioner, skin and nail conditioner, useful in handmade soaps and creams as well as healing balms. Good for adding to handmade lip balms. I include recipes for natural shea butter-based products here: Four Seasons of Mojo: An Herbal Guide to Natural Living
Sticks, Stones, Roots & Bones: Hoodoo, Mojo & Conjuring with Herbs
but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to find and be able to use this shea in your everyday beauty regimen.

5 out of 5 stars wouldn't live without it.   December 4, 2006

I've bought this product several times over five + years. The tin lasts and lasts, a little goes a long way. Start with a tiny bit and apply more as needed or you're just wasting it.

The purity allows you to use it anywhere on your body, from under your eyes to the bottom of your feet. Never irritates my sensitive skin. I keep it in a couple of places around the house but use it most often while watching tv. This way, I can allow it to soak in and work it's magic!

My favorite way to use it is after I rub it into my hands, I work it through my waist length hair. Dry or damp, it gives me fly-away free hair with that cool, clumpy, wavy look I love. Applying it to chapped lips heals them faster than anything else I've tried.

Makes a thoughful gift. Anyone I've given it to has gotten hooked like me!

1 out of 5 stars Terrible packaging!   August 16, 2006

While I like this product and its versatility, the packaging (which is like a shoe polish tin)broke within 2 months. The little side spinner that lifts the lid snapped off quite easily. A call to the L'Occitane company was unsatisfactory. They do not have the item in stock at this time and I was told I could send my defective item back to them (at my own expense) and hope more product would arrive soon to replace it. Sadly, since their customer service was so poor I will not be buying anything more from L'Occitane.
